Springly's online payment service lets your nonprofit collect membership fees, donations, shop sales, and event tickets by payment card — on mobile or desktop. This article explains what the service is, how it works, and how to get started.
Online payment doesn't replace your other payment methods: your members can still pay by check, cash, or wire transfer if your nonprofit offers those options. Every online payment, however, is automatically recorded as a collection — no manual entry needed.

How does it work?
☝️ It all starts with an e-wallet
Your e-wallet is funded automatically whenever your nonprofit receives a payment. Funds are not automatically transferred to your bank account: you request a payout from your e-wallet to your bank account whenever you're ready.
Online payment on Springly works in three steps: the member makes a payment, the funds are received in your e-wallet, and then a payout is sent to your nonprofit's bank account.
Step 1: the payment
After creating your membership form, your donation form, your online shop, or your event ticketing, you share the link with your community members. Each member then selects their item and chooses payment card as their payment method.
You can manage transaction costs by giving members the option to leave a tip of their choice or to cover the online payment fee themselves. See What is the cost of online transactions?
Payment fees covered by the nonprofit
Transaction fees were updated on May 15, 2024. This article already reflects that change.
Each payment includes a transaction fee of 3.1% + $0.30. Learn more about payment fees and simulate how Springly's online payment service works for your nonprofit.
Here's an example to put this in context:
John pays his $20 membership fee just as he would on any e-commerce site, using his payment card. Of that $20, Springly deducts $0.92 in payment fees (3.1% of $20 = $0.62 + $0.30).
Tip
The nonprofit can allow the person paying by card to be prompted at checkout to leave an additional amount, calculated based on their cart total.

Step 2: receiving the payment
Payment fees are deducted before funds reach your e-wallet. The balance shown on the e-wallet page therefore reflects the amount actually transferred to your nonprofit.
In this example, your nonprofit's e-wallet increases by $19.08 ($20.00 minus the $0.92 in payment fees).
Step 3: retrieving the collected funds
At any time, you can request a payout from your e-wallet to your nonprofit's bank account.
To do so, go to Payments > E-wallet, then click Payout to my bank. There is no limit on the number of payouts, and no fees are charged for these transfers. The amount will then appear in your nonprofit's bank account.
