Each contact in your database has two independent consent settings. The first covers marketing emails, meaning whether they receive your email campaigns. The second covers open and click tracking, also known as a tracking pixel. This article is intended for administrators who manage contacts and email campaigns for their nonprofit. A contact who declines tracking will still receive your emails normally: opting out of tracking is not the same as unsubscribing.
How do I update consent settings from a contact's profile?
- Open the CRM menu, then the contacts list.
- Click on the relevant contact.
- Open the Privacy tab on the contact profile. This tab is available for both individual and organization contacts.
- Enable or disable consent for marketing emails.
- Enable or disable consent for open and click tracking as well.
- Save your changes.
The Privacy tab now reflects the contact's current choices, which will apply to your next sends.
Contacts already in your database before this feature was introduced have both consents enabled by default. No action is needed on your part to keep your existing data.
How do contacts manage their own preferences?
- From the email footer: a consent preferences block is automatically added to all emails sent by the platform, including both marketing campaigns and transactional emails. The contact clicks the link to open their preferences page and update their choices.
- From a secure link: recipients on a mailing list receive a signed link that opens a preferences page where they can manage their tracking and email reception settings. No account is required.
- From a collection form: during a membership sign-up or donation, checkboxes collect consent for marketing emails. These checkboxes are never pre-checked.
Consent checkboxes will not appear on the form if the contact already exists in your database: the previously recorded consent is kept and will not be overwritten.
How do I check tracking consent in a sent campaign?
- Open the relevant email campaign.
- Display the list of campaign recipients.
- Check the tracking consent indicator shown for each sent email.
For a recipient who declined tracking, the status Open not measured replaces the usual open statuses, along with the date of that decision. Your open and click rates therefore only reflect recipients who have consented to tracking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a contact who opts out of tracking still receive my emails? Yes. Opting out of open and click tracking has no effect on email delivery. Only consent to marketing emails determines whether campaigns are received.
Will my open rate statistics drop? Open and click rates only count recipients who have consented to tracking. Others appear with the status Opens not measured.
Does fraud detection still work? Yes. Even when a contact opts out of tracking, an anonymized log with no personal data is retained for 30 days to maintain alerts on abnormal click volumes.
Can I enable tracking pixel consent from a country other than France? No. Outside of markets where the tracking pixel is available, only marketing email consent is available on the contact record and on forms.
